Thames21 Chosen As Official Charity for The Boat Race 2006
Environmental charity Thames21 works with thousands of volunteers every year to clean up London’s rivers and canals, create habitats for wildlife along the Thames, install waterside artwork and encourage community action on our waterways.
Debbie Leach, Chief Executive of Thames21 said: “We are delighted to be the chosen charity of The Boat Race and determined to make the most of this fantastic association with this hugely popular sporting event to raise awareness and funds for Thames21’s work. This partnership brings us one step closer to creating clean waterways for all across the capital.”

Clubs said: "We have decided to make Thames21 our official charity because The Boat Race has ties with the Thames which go back over 150 years. The event and the river are synonymous. It makes sense for us to have such a relevant charity partner. Our rowers will be helping to raise the profile of Thames21 over the coming months and we will be looking at various ways in which we can work together".
Thames21’s community based clean up work improves the health of the magnificent river Thames benefiting everyone that uses it: from the Oxford and Cambridge rowers slugging it out in the battle of the blues, to those taking a gentle stroll along its river banks, to the communities living and working alongside waterways throughout Greater London.
