Tideway Code Panel

By: P.R

The Tideway Code Panel was formally constituted as a sub-committee of the TRRC at the December committee meeting.

The panel, which will meet each month to consider incident reports consists of a Chairman appointed by the TRRC exec and four members.

The members are gathered from a small, a medium, a large and an academic club, with membership rotating so that every Tideway club will, in turn, be represented.

The Current members are Parr's Priory, Furnival Sculling Club, Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha BC and Emanuel School BC .

On-line Incident Reporting

The on-line incident reporting system is nearly ready. It is a simple yet comprehensive and easy to use site.

The TRRC will give member clubs notice when they are able to use it.

The incident reports are still treated with 'what if?' points being awarded where appropriate. The majority of reports are judged as needing educational advice, and the whole system is intended to be educational so that the requirements placed on Tideway users become second nature by the time the spring comes.

Although it may not seem too important for crews to be in the right place on the river all the time, when rowers are the only river users about, come the summer, when there will be many more leisure and commercial vessels on the Tideway, we must have it right, as part of our culture.

It is important for the continued future of our sport on the Tideway that rowing is seen as one of the 'goodies' not the 'baddies' as has been the case in the past.
