64th Women's Boat Race at Henley

By: p.r.

Oxford and Cambridge women's eights will meet at Henley on Sunday 22 March for the 64th Women's Boat Race.

Although Cambridge has the overall upper hand in the series which started in
1927 neither university has had the edge in recent years, with honours even
in the last four races.

Each crew has just one Blue returning from the 2008 event, that was won by Oxford, but both eights boast a handful of athletes who have made the jump from last year's reserves crews.

Oxford's internationals include Liz Murphy from Australia, Nicole Schuemann
from Germany, and Sonia Bracegirdle from New Zealand, while the Cambridge
crew features Icelandic/Russian athlete Evgenia Ilyinskaya.

The Women's Boat Race is part of a four-race programme which also includes Boat Races for lightweight men and lightweight women, as well as the women's reserves race between Osiris (Oxford) and Blondie (Cambridge).

Among the lightweight men who will line up for their 35th encounter are
American Pete Nordberg and Irishman Kevin Cunningham who both row for
Oxford.

The race programme starts at 1.30pm, to include the Women's Boat Race at
3pm, and full details are available on the event website
