Great River Race 2006
273 crews lined up on the Thames by Ham House in Petersham on Saturday to compete in the annual Great River race over the 22 miles from Richmond to Greenwich.
The event was won by GB row challenge, a crew of Royal Marine Reservists in an Atlantic rowing boat, who were taking part as part of their preparations for an assault on the Atlantic record in January.
Amongst the competitors were crews from the Watermen’s company; the Thames Traditional Boat Society; the London Port Health Authority; the River Thames Society and Captial Radio; as well as representatives from many rowing and skiff clubs in the region.
A crew from the Tideway Scullers School came a very respectable 4th, rowing in a Pembrokeshire Longboat.
