Steps, stairs and landing places on the tidal Thames

Introduction

In 1995 the Port of London Authority produced a report under the above title, which "contains the first comprehensive survey of these facilities, their condition and status, and addresses their usage".

As a member of the River Thames Society’s Central Tideway & Estuary Branch I thought it would be timely to compile a similar survey, to see what has happened during the last ten years

Following the PLA’s method I have visited, over a nine-month period, all the sites listed and describe their condition and accessibility

Fifteen riparian London authorities are covered, including the Cities of London and Westminster, together with five boroughs further downstream

I have tried to observe sites from the land and river, but this was not always possible due to re-development. A few I could not find.

Any information on any of the steps, stairs and landing places listed would be appreciated, as I would like to keep the entries up to date.

Although I hope the survey will be used and supported by members it is not a River Thames Society publication and any errors or omissions are my responsibility
